When we polled agents on a recent local SEO webinar, about 40% had a Google Business Profile already set up. The other 60% didn't. If you're in that second group, here's the problem: when someone searches "health insurance agent near me," Google isn't showing them agents. It's showing them profiles. No profile, no visibility, no matter how good you actually are at the job.
The good news — it's free, it takes about 20 minutes to set up, and most of what moves the needle afterward is maintenance, not mastery.
Watch the full session: Local SEO for Health Insurance Pros — 45 minutes, screen-share walkthrough of the exact setup process below.
Google judges credibility using a framework it calls E-E-A-T: experience, expertise, authoritativeness, trustworthiness. It's not a formula that spits out your ranking — it's the lens Google's quality systems use to decide whether you're who you say you are. We won't go deep on all four here — that's its own topic— but your Google Business Profile is one of the fastest ways to build trustworthiness specifically. It's Google's way of checking whether the business information floating around the internet about you actually matches up. Same name, same number, same address, everywhere. Consistency reads as credibility, both to Google and to the person deciding whether to call you.
This is the part most agents skip, and it's the part Google weighs most heavily.
A short list of the mistakes that come up constantly:
None of these are hard to fix. They're just easy to forget once the profile's live and the initial setup high is gone.
If you don't have a profile yet, go to business.google.com and hit "create your profile." It'll walk you through the same steps above. If you already have one, pull it up this week and run it against the checklist above — most of the fixes take minutes, not hours.
